UNDRESSING THE SOUL

©all rights reserved

Some days, the mask just gets too heavy to hold up anymore. It gets set down without meaning to...no filter, no polish, no audience to please. Just quiet, a little raw, standing in front of whatever's been carried around all day.

So many layers get worn, quietly stacked on top of each other over the years. The version that shows up for work. The one that smiles through the small talk. The one that stays composed when everything inside feels anything but. None of these versions are lies, exactly...they're just... coats. Protective, useful, sometimes necessary. But coats aren't meant to be slept in.

Peace only shows up once a few of those coats come off. Not all at once. Not dramatically. Just enough to breathe.

Maybe that's a truth that slips out before the mind catches up. Maybe it's a moment of quiet that arrives uninvited on a busy day. Maybe it's choosing what feels right, not what looks right to everyone else.

"The soul doesn't ask permission to feel, it only asks that we stop dressing it up for other people."

Truth is, taking the layers off is scary. Not because anyone's watching, but because the self is. Sometimes the self is the harshest audience there is.

But discomfort isn't the same as danger. Sitting with an unfinished thought, an unclear feeling, or an unresolved question and just letting it exist without fixing it right away, that's not weakness. That's where the wisdom hides, underneath the need to have it all figured out.

"What you're afraid to show is usually exactly what someone else needs to see."

No grand gesture is needed to start undressing the soul. It can be as quiet as sitting with a thought that has no destination yet. Sitting in silence for a few extra minutes. Letting a feeling simply be, without rushing to explain it away.

Let there be room to stay unfinished for a minute. Let the layers come off slowly, in their own time, in a quiet room.

"You don't have to be brave to begin, you just have to be willing to be seen by yourself first."

Whatever shows up today doesn't need to be shared, polished, or explained. It just needs to be true. That's enough. That's actually everything.
